“Come over here.”
I had just pulled into the garage seconds earlier after a long day, but my neighbor summoned me to the driveway. “Look up,” he said. We stared at the trees towering above us in the dark night as I tried to figure out what exactly I was supposed to be looking at.
“Bioluminescence,” he said.
“Bioluminescence?” I strained my gaze at the trees, perplexed.
“The green dots.”
“Ohh…” Still not totally sure if he was being serious or sarcastic, I divulged the secret. “Lasers!”
“Lasers?” He replied.
Ok, yep, he’s serious.
I explained how we had two laser lights lighting up our trees this year and pointed out the devices. He walked over to a device to confirm what I was saying was factual as he tried to wrap his mind around this new reality. Finally convinced, we had a little giggle and parted ways.
We love this neighbor and all his quirks, and I love seeing my trees in this alternate light: bioluminescent.
